WORLD RECORD CREATED BY DR.S.P.B, 36000SONGS IN 39 YEARS.

OUR LEGEND DR.SPB WAS BORN ON 4TH JUNE AT KONOTTAMPETTAI, GURUJIS FATHERS NAME IS MR.S.P.SAMBHAVAMURTHY & MOTHERS NAME IS MS.SAKUNTHALAMMA.

SPB had shown lots of interest in singing during the school days itself & he had won many prizes in the competition.

TELUGU SANGAM was conducting music competitions every year, in that OUR PADUM NILA SPB HAD WON 1ST PRIZE IN 2 CONSECUTIVE YEARS, in that organaisation the rule is if anyone win the 1st prize for 3 consecutive years, they have to hand over the SILVER CUP, so if our SPB wins the 1st prize in the 3rd consecutive year, they had to give the cup. To avoid that they had ANNOUNCED 2ND PRIZE FOR OUR PADUM NILA.

MS.JANAKI, was the cheif guest for the presentation ceremony, the first 3 award winners had sung before the GREAT QUEEN S.JANAKI, immediately S.JANAKI went to the stage & informed in the mike that you pupil had already announced the prizes, but to my knowledge i really feel that, the guy who had won the 2nd prize deserves to receive the 1st prize & its left to you pupil whomever you distribute the prize & went away, So the organaisation had no other choice, so they announced that OUR GREAT SPB as the 1st prize winner & they had handed over the SILVER CUP.

While after some time, our great was singing in a local programme, the TELUGU MUSIC DIRECTOR MR.S.P.KOTHANDAPANI had listened to his voice & said that to SPB THAT YOUR VOICE IS SO SO SWEET, YOU DESERVE TO SING IN THE FILMS, then the music director had tried his level best to intorduce our GURUJI IN THE FILM, but luck doesnt favour at that time.

FIRST SONG: In 1966, Music Director MR.S.P.KOTHANDAPANI gave the first chance for our PADUM NILA in the movie "SRI SRI SRI MARAYATHA RAMANNA" & not only that Mr.SPK had taught our GURUJI the way of singing in films. So from that day MR.S.P.KOTHANDAPANI had become the HEARTIEST GURU for his career.

SPB ENTERS TAMIL FILM THRO M.G.R.

SPB while studying in THYAGARAJA COLLEGE, in a music competition SPB got the introduction of Advertising designer MR.BHARANI. They both had become very close soon.

Mr.Bharani introduced our Guruji to FILM DIRECTOR MR.SRIDHAR, Guruji then sung a song before SRIDHAR & he had requested our Guruji to come to his office tomorrow to meet the GOD OF MUSIC MR.M.S.VISVANATHAN.

So next day when our GURUJI went to SRIDHARS office, MSV was composing a song with 50orchestras, even though SPB had sung nearly 10songs during that period in TELUGU, he had not seen such a huge orchestra. So our GURUJI got delighted, then after finishing the composing SRIDHAR introduced SPB to MSV.

MSV had requested SPB to sing a song, immediately SPB had sung a HINDI SONG, but MSV INSISTED SPB TO SING A TAMIL SONG, but SPB said that i dont have tamil song book with me, so MSV had gave him the tamil song book, immediatlely SPB transformed that song to telugu & sung that song. But MSV was not happy with the tamil pronounsation,but satisfied with the sweet voice of our PADUM NILA BALU. So, MSV had requested SPB to learn the TAMIL PRONOUNSATION quickly & meet me again.

Exactly after 1year accidentally SPB & MSV met each other in a function & SPB had thought that MSV should have forgot me, but MSV WENT TO SPB & ASKED HIM, that u r the guy who had been introduced to me by SRIDHAR in his office, SPB said yes. MSV immediately asked SPB THAT i had requested to meet me again, why you had not turned up, SPBreplied that i had not fully learnt the pronounsation in tamil, for that MSV said that you are far better than before so come & meet me tomorrow itself.

So SPB met MSV next day, he immediately gave an opportunity to sing the first song in tamil in the movie "HOTEL RAMBHA" with L.R.EASWARI, but unfortunately that movie didnt release at all. After some time MSV gave another chance for the movie" SHANTHI NILAYAM" with P.SUSEELA,. Actually that song came well in the recording & had been received great appreciation from all over there. So SPB was dreaming that it will become a very big hit & i can become a great singer in the tamil industry., but accidentally the great actor MR.MGR had heard about the sweet voice of our PADUM NILA & he had decided to give an opportunity in his movie "ADIMAI PENN",the music for the film is by MR.K.V.MAHADEVAN.

Exactly on the recording day of the song, SPB had fallen in very high temperature & cant able to get up from the bed & it takes 2 months to get fully recovered from that fever. SPB had thought that the song for the movie "ADIMAIPENN" should have been done by any other singer, but the GREAT HUMAN BEING M.G.R. had waited for 2 months till SPB had recover from fever & ask him to complete the recording. After recording the song, SPB went to MGRs residence & conveyed his heartful thanks for waiting & gave him the great opportunity, MGR quietly heard everything & said to SPB THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE INFORMED TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS & RELATIVES, that you are going to sing for me in that mive, SO I DOESNT WANT TO DESTROY YOUR HAPPINESS, THATS WHY I HAD BEEN WAITIED FOR YOU TO DO, SPB HAD FULL OF TEARS for his KINDNESS.

Actually SPB had sung the first song in tamil for the movie "SHANTHI NILAYAM", but before that " MGRs movie " ADIMAI PENN" released on 1st May 1969. So, SPBs first released song in tamil movies is "AYIRAM NILAVAE VAA" IN "ADIMAI PENN", with that one song itself SPB HAD TOCHED THE PEAK.

"POTTU VAITHA MUGAMO" song in the movie "SUMATHI
EN SUNDARI" is the 1st song for our GURUJI in SHIVAJIS FILM, MSV is the music director.

SPB went to the recording theatre with little bit of fear, as he is going to sing for the 1st time in SHIVAJIS MOVIE. In the recording theatre SHIVAJI was waiting for SPB, normally SHIVAJI doesnt come for recording theatre, everone including SPB was delighted. But, SHIVAJI coolly went to SPB & informed that you should sing this song with your own style, i will act acording to your voice. i just came over here to iform this coz, lots of pupil will put you in trouble so just sing your own way without any fear & went away.

Then SPB & P.SUSHEELA sung that song, which had been appreciated by everyone including SHIVAJI & MSV. The movie was released on 14th APRIL 1971. After the song hadbeen released everyone appreciated the talent of our Guruji.

During the period NTR & A.NAGESWARA RAO was in full swing in TELUGU field. KRISHNA was just growing in the field, for KRISHNAS film SPB was the playback singer, which had been suited very well, at the same time SPB sung for TELUGU COMEDIAN ACTORS ALSO.

The films which KRISHNA acted had become a SUPER
HIT MOVIES. So KRISHNA requested SPB to sing all the
songs for his movies & also for other big heros too, but NOT FOR COMEDY ACTORS. SPB accepted it & started to sing for KRISHNAS MOVIES & OTHER BIG HEROS TOO.

Within a short period SPB HAD REACHED THE TOP SPOT IN TELUGU FILMS. At the same time SPB STARTED TO SING IN TAMIL, TELUGU, KANNADA in full swing. DAY TO DAY SPB HAD BECOME VERY FAMOUS IN THESE STATES.

In Suresh Krishna Direction " INDRAN CHANDRAN" Kamal played dual role.

( 1 is younger chap role & the other is the VERY OLD GUY ). SPB had to sing for both the roles played by Kamal in the movie.

Before a day recording Kamal met SPB & said that i will give the voice recording cassette for the old guy charecter i had played, you lsten to that & then you sing according to that, so that it will suit well for the movie.

As Kamal said, SPB listened to the cassette & next day SPB had sung the song for the older guy charecter. After recording is over, Kamal gave the recorded cassette to his wife MS.SARIKA, immediately she congrotulated Kamal, coz she thought that the song should have been sung by him, but Kamal said to his wife that i had not sung, it had been actually sung byTHE GREAT PADUM NILA SPB. Sarika was delighted & she met our Guruji & CONGRATULATED for his WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE.

HELPING MIND: SPB had lots of friends, once his friends decided to make a movie, Our Guruji doesnt want to disappoint his friends, so SPB had taken his friends to film PRODUCER "MR.PURNACHANDRA RAO" & said to him that his friends want to make a moive, i will give the surity for the money. But Mr.Rao explained the difficulties with the production, but our Guruji was very confident with his friends, so he desperately need to help. So he gave the surity & the film was produced & got released. As Mr.Rao said, the movie was a flap & finds heavy loss, to equal the loss their friends started another movie, but this time with KRISHNA who was giving hit movies at that time, but unfortunatley that movie was also a flap. So to compensate the loss & for the surity given by SPB, he had to work had for 3 years to fulfill that loss.

1st NATIONAL AWARD

In 1979, DR.SPB had sung for the movie 'SHANKARA BHARANAM", THE MOVIE IS BASED ON FULLY CARNATIC MUSIC, but the LEGEND DR.SPB had taken it as a challenge & sung the songs for the movie & proved his CAPABILITY to the world, later DR.SPB HAD RECEIVED THE 1ST NATIONAL AWARD FOR THE SONG SUNG IN THIS MOVIE.

GREAT ESCAPE FROM ACCIDENT.

SPB & MAESTRO ILAYARAJA travalled in car, they met an accident but they both came out injury free. MAESTRO said to SPB that we both are going to acheive some thing in this world.

Maestro got introduced in the TAMIL film industry in 1976 only, but before that itself SPB & MAESTRO are good friends.

SPB met MAESTOR in 1970 for the first time, MAESRO came to chennai with lots of dream to perform in music, he came to chennai with his brothers R.D.BHASKAR & GANGAI AMARAN.

During that period SPB was running a music troop, so MAESTRO wants to join the troop as to play the ARMONIUM, but during that period another person was playing that, so at that time MAESTRO JOINED SPB GROUP TO PLAY THE GUITAR. later MAESTRO PLAYED THE ARMONIUM IN SPB GROUP. But, MAESTROS dream was to become a MUSIC DIRECTOR IN FILMS. So MAESTRO learnt music & MAESRO was ALWAYS thinking about music, then MEASTRO later joined as GUITARIST in Music Director 'G.K.VENKATESH" troop.

Later in 1976 MAESTRO got introduced in TAMIL FILM "ANNAKILI" & created flurry of records.

ACCIDENT

When both LEGENDS went to POLLACHI to a concert & while returning back to chennai, SPB was driving the car at around 5.30am, hey reached VELLORE & had taken the breakfast & SPB had asked his driver to drive the car as he is so tired, so the journey starts within a short time while crossing over a small bridge, a small kid ran across the road to avoid hitting the kid the driver turned the car, but it hit the post & fallen into the pond. They cant come out of the car, then they borke the glass of the car & everybody cameout of the vechile without any injury. Before that crowd had surrounded after hearing about the accident, at that period SPB was very familiar, So the town pupils taken them to a nearby house & arranged another car for them to travel to chennai. During that time only MAESTO HAD SIAD TO SPB THAT " GOD HAS GIVEN THIS LIFE TO ACHEIVE , THATS WHY WE HAD COME ALIVE."

LATER IT HAD BEEN DONE BY BOTH THE LEGENDS.

SPB HAD BECOME FAMILIAR THROUGHOUT INDIA

SPB had become very familiar throughout INDIA by singing the song in the film "EK DUJE KE LIYE", directed by K.BALACHANDAR, later SPB received the 2nd NATIONAL AWARD for this film' MR.L.V.PRASAD was the producer of the film.

Actually the original movie had taken in Telugu movie 'MAROCHARITRA' in which Kamal & Saritha acted in that movie, the movie had created a history by running 596 days in Chennai.

So, produced L.V.PRASAD wants to remake it HINDI & asked K.BALACHANDAR to do the Direction of that movie, in that movie KAMAL & RATHI acted.

INTRODUCTION :

SPB was doing a concert in LONDON during that period, the film producer called SPB thro phone & informed him that once you reach INDIA, you should in my HINDI FILM. So till that day SPB was busy in singing SOUTH INDIAN languages & for the 1st time SPB SUNG IN HINDI MOVIE, WHICH WAS A VERY BIG HIT.

SPB WITH LATHA MANGESHKAR.

In 1979, SPB had sung with the INDIAN QUEEN OF MELODIES LATHA MAGESHKAR, but when they both join together in the HINDI MOVIE for the 1st time, in the song SPB will use some tamil words for KAMAL as " NEE NALLA PADARAE", LATHAJI asked the meaning of the word, for that SPB said that "YOU ARE SINGING BEAUTIFULLY", after hearing that LATHAJI started to laugh & later LATHAJI informed SPB that you are having a VERY GREAT FUTURE IN HINDI FILMS ALSO. After that LATHAJI & SPB had sung together good nos, & also they had done toghether lots of concert abroad also.

For the first time in a concert in DUBAI with LATHAJI, nearly 20000 fans had been gathered in the auditorium, while LATHAJI introducing SPB to those spectators as " MY MOST RESPECTABLE PLAYBACK SINGER". SPB then said its A PLEASANT GIFT for me.

SPBS MOTHER GOT ACCIDENT

In 1996,14th october, in KOLKATTA , there was a very big concert had been arranged for LATHAJI & SPB, 3 days before the concert SPBS MOTHER met an big accident & had been hospitalised, so SPB informed LATHAJI about his nonavailablitiy for the concert. LATHAJI also informed the same to SPB to take care of his mother.

But, SPBS mother came to know about the cancellation of his trip to the concert, he said to SPB that LOTS OF FANS WILL BE DREAMING TO HEAR YOUR VOICE LIVE, so dont disappoint them dont worry about me, i will be alright. So as per his mothers wish SPB attended the concert where 70,000 FANS had gathered.

While LATHAJI said to the 70,000 fans who had gathered over there, that
SPBS mum had been hospitalised due to an accident, even though SPB is here coz not to DISAPPOINT YOU PUPILS, so just all of them should make a very speical prayer for a very speedy recovery for SPBS mother, SPB then said that THE HUMANITY SHOWN BY LATHAJI HAD MADE ME TO BOW HER.

2ND NATIONAL AWARD.

All the songs sung in the movie "EK DUJE KE LIYE " had become a super hit songs, In 1979 SPB RECEIVED THE 1ST NATIONAL AWARD FOR THE FILM "SANKARA BHARANAM", in 1981 SPB HAD RECEIVED THE 2ND NATIONAL AWARD FOR THE FILM " EK DUJE KE LIYE ".

SPB BECAME HERO IN THE FILM " KELADI KANMANI".

( As a playback singer, SPB created History, then
became MUSIC DIRECTOR & THEN NOW ACTOR.)

In the movie "KELADI KANMANI" SPB not only acted, he had also sung a song WITHOUT BREATHING & Created History.

MUSIC DIRECTOR :

As per the request of Director "DASHIRI NARAYANA RAO", SPB had accepted to do the MUSIC for his film "KANYAKUMARI", it had became a SUPER HIT, so SPB had continued to do MUSIC for films.

In Tamil Movie, SPB"s 1st movie as MUSIC
DIRECTOR was " RAJNIKANTH Movie, 'THUDIKKUM KARANGAL', within a short period SPB had done the music for more than 45films, including AMIL,TELUGU, KANNADA & HINDI.

DUBBING ARTIST :

For Rajni & Kamal films whichever had been
dubbed in other languages, SPB is used to do the
dubbing for both. SPB is very very talented in DUBBING according to the Actors. Recently, SPB had done the dubbing for Actor Suman in the film "ANNAMAYYA", for the same SPB HAD RECEIVED THE "ANDHRA PRADESH GOVERNMENT AWARD".

ACTING :

During the college days itself, SPB had acted in college festivals. So the producers wanted SPB to act in films. So, when SPB got the 1st opportunity to act in tamil film "KELADI KANMANI", SPB gracefully accepted . Actress Radhika was the heroine of the film.

RADHIKAS APPRECIATION:

During the 80th day celebration of the film
"KELADI KANMANI", Actress Radhika said that, SPB IS
NOT ONLY A GREAT SINGER, HE IS ALSO A VERY TALENTED
ACTOR. If SPB SHOULD HAVE AT THE BEGINNING OF HIS
CAREER ITSELF, TODAY SPB SHOULD HAVE BECAME A VERY
FAMILIAR HERO & SPB SHOULD HAVE JOINED THE ALL TIME GREATS OF (MK.THYAGARAJA BAGHAVATHAR, P.U CHINNAPPA, T.R.MAHALINGAM, these greats can ACT & SING ).

HISTORY :

Till few years ago "THE QUEEN OF MELODY LATHAJI" was holding the record of most number of songs sung. But, now SPB HAD BROKEN that record by singing more than 36,000 songs in 39years in TAMIL, TELUGU, MALAYALAM, KANNADA, HINDI, BENGALI, TULU, ORIYA, ASSAM & PUNJABI.

FANS :
In 1993, in a concert a fan of our Guruji, met SPB & showed a note in which, the fan had been updated the songs sung by our GURUJI (13,160 SONGS) till that day with full details of the song(movie, music, etc..) SPB was dlighted by the effort takn by that fan, so Guruji invited that FAN to his residence & conveyed the Thanks to him for his gallant effort taken.

SPB then said in a interview that, only with
the SUPPORT & ENCOURAGEMENT of these kinds of FANS, MY VOICE IS STILL GOING STEADY. I had not done anything to the fans, but still how much effort & care had been taken to preserve it, I AM REALLY DELIGHTED.

US PRESIDENT MR.CLINTONS APPRECIATION FOR LATHAJI & SPB

In 1995, ASIAN DOCTORS FEDERATION decided to conduct medical camps in INDIA, for that they decided to raise funds. So in SOUTH, SPB & SHAILAJA had done the concert & in North LATHAJI had done the concert, all together THEY HAD COLLECTED 10 LAKHS US DOLLARS.

US PRESIDENT APPRECIATED:

For raising such a huge funds for the Charity, US PRESIDENT MR.CLINTON in a conference in US, APPRECIATED LATHAJI & SPB for their GALLANT EFFORT.

In the conference, both LATHAJI & SPB had sung some songs infront of US PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT then said , that HE WAS DELIGHTED WITH THE TALENT & SWEET VOICE THEY BOTH HAD, not only that.

President then INVITED both LATHAJI & SPB to the " WHITE HOUSE" & BOTH HAD BEEN HONOURED over there.

HOW IS POSSIBLE:

In 39yrs, 36,000 songs, doing music, acting, singing songs, & also doing concerts in Abroad. How is it possible for this man ?

SPB'S REPLY : from 7 to 9am doing DUBBING, then till 1' o clock Acting in movies, then from 3 to 6pm again acting & then till 11.00pm SINGING, if required, changes would be made according to that.

17 songs in 1day : in 1981, 8th February in Bangalore from 9am to 9pm, SPB had sung 17SONGS , Mr.Upendra Kumar is the music Direcotr, before this 19 songs in Tamil & 16 songs in Hindi are recorded in 1 day.

RECORDING THEATRE:

SPB had thought of construct a Recording Theatre of his own. Then he constructed that & had kept the name of his GURUJI SHRI.KOTHANDAPANI'S name for the recording theatre.

FRIENDSHIP : For the construction of the Recording theatre SPB'S dear friend R.RADHAKRISHNAN had done a lot of help, but unfortunately before the opening ceremony of the Recording Theatre, MR.RADHAKRISHNAN had EXPIRED, so in memory of his friend SPB had constructed a DUBBING THEATRE on top of the recording theatre & suited his friend name for the same.

SPB had not only sung 36,000 songs & created history, SPB had also creatd history by WINNING MOST NO. OF NATIONAL AWARDS ( 6 TIMES ) FOR BEING THE BEST PLAY BACK SINGER IN INDIA.

SPB had also won TAMILNADU GOVT. AWARD 4 times, ANDHRAPRADESH GOVERNMENT AWARD 12 times, CINEMA FANS ASSOCIATION AWARD 22 times.

PRESS MEET :

In a press meet, SPB had come out very openly about his LIKES & DISLIKES.

LIKES : SPB had welcomed the scientific development in Music dept., coz of that only I had able to sing 36,000 songs. SPB loves all the songs he had sung in the films so far, SPB always wanted to give his best out of him.

SPB's favourite playback singer is K.J.YESUDAS, MAHATMA GANDHI is SPB's favourite freedom fighter, SPB had seen the movie "GANDHI" 11 times, SPB admits that in the TELUGU VERSION of film " GANDHI ", he had given the dubbing for the 'GANDHI' charecter in the film, WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST GREAT HONOURS IN HIS LIFE.

SPB CHARAN - SINGER & FILM PRODUCER.

As everyone knew that DR.SPB's son CHARAN is a
PLAYBACK SINGER & he is also a film PRODUCER. He had produced films like "UNNAI SARAN ADAINTHEN, MAZHAI & now he is producing "CHENNAI 600028".

DR.SPB's DAUGHTER MS.PALLAVI

In 1994, SPB'S DAUGHTER got marrried to
MR.GIRIDHAR RAJA, who is our 'WEB MASTER' for this
prestigious group very successfully & leading us in front through a proper channel.

Through this occasion, I Purposely THANK OUR
WEB MASTER for GUIDING US to a great future. keep up
the good work sir. our WEB MASTER is running a
software company in chennai.

PRESS MEET :

In a press meet our GURUJI said that he was lean during his younger days & after having lots of sweet,he had become fat. GURUJI LOVES SWEET VERY MUCH.

Then, our GURUJI said that he had lots of Fans, he use to receive lots of letters from them, but unfotunately due to work load, he cant able to reply to all, but GURUJI use to send the photos to them. HE RESPECTS & LOVES HIS FANS.

Guruji also informed thro press that all my fans would love to meet me in personal, but i cant able to do that,so Guruji informed that for all your wishes OUR GURUJI WOULD BE SINGING, TILL HE CAN ABLE TO SING FOR HIS FANS.

ABOUT NEW SINGERS:
Our Guruji mentioned a very important
INFORMATION for the new comers to come up in their
career. THEY SHOULD NOT TAKE IT INTO CONSIDERATION AS JUST SINGING FEW SONS & GETTING A AWARD FOR THAT SONG IS NOT A ACHEIVEMENT, THEY SHOULD SING ON THEIR OWN STYLE & NOT TO IMITATE OTHER SINGERS, THEY SHOULD RESPECT ELDERS, THEY SHOULD BE PREPARED TO WORK HARD,& VERY IMPORTANTLY THEY SHOULD TREAT EACH & EVERY SONG AS THAT WAS THE FIRST SONG IN THIER CAREER.

Gurujis favourite sports is CRICKET & TENNIS. Guruji had kept the recordings of the Tennis & whenever Guruji gets time, he use to watch it. Guruji use to cancel his recording & watch Cricket. Guruji had went to SHARJAH plenty of times to watch the match.

GOD :
Guruji had faith in God, but while Guruji wakes up in the morning, GURUJI use to THINK ABOUT HIS PARENTS & while going to bed, Guruji use to pray, that during the day, IF HE HAD DONE ANY MISTAKE WITHOUT HIS KNOWLEDE, PLS. KINDLY FORGIVE. This is the prayer he use to do. GURUJI CLEARLY MENTIONED THAT PARENTS ARE VERY VALUABLE THAN GOD.

Future:

Guruji said that there is no speicific plan,
till my voice is good, i will be keep singing.

Guruji is also planning to Direct a movie, may be after his retirement from singing, BUT GURUJI WAS VERY SURE THAT HE WANTS TO BE IN TOUCH WITH HIS FIELD ALWAYS.

GURUJI FINALLY SAID, THAT EVEN IN MY NEXT
GENERATION ALSO I WOULD LOVE TO BE A SINGER & AS IN THIS GENERATION I AM HAVING A VERY GOOD FAMILY, FRIENDS & FANS & ALL THEIR WISHES, HOPE I WOULD LOVE TO GET THE SAME.
